The result was on expected lines. The second test match in Kanpur ended within 3 days and it's India that won the match in style and levelled the series 1-1. India needed only 62 runs to win the match, and they reached the target in just 13.1 overs, losing just 2 wickets in the process. Sehwag wanted to finish the game as early as possible. He made 22 off 12 balls with 1 boundary and 2 sixes. Dravid remained unbeaten on 18.
Earlier, South African batsmen could not cope with the three-pronged spin attack launched by India. Harbhajan, Chawla and Sehwag made their life difficult on a cracking wicket. To add more their trouble, Ishant and Sreesanth too delivered during South Africa's second innings. South Africa could manage only 121 runs. While Harbhajan took 4 wickets, Sehwag was the surprise package, as he picked up 3 wickets. Ishant Sharma took 2 wickets.
Although the quality of the wicket remained the talk of the match, one would admit that it was not easy to bat on for either team. Ultimately, the team that showed character, won the match. And, it was Team India. Sourav Ganguly was declared "Man of the Match" for his 87 in the first innings. Harbhajan Singh who took 19 wickets in the series, was declared "Man of the Series" and received a Tata Sumo Grand. Both India and South Africa shared the Future Cup and India managed to hold on to their second spot in ICC Test Rankings.
